My children and I love spending time together. One way we do that is to get on our hughes net broadband internet and look up things we are all interested in. So this week saw Jack become allied with fake John Locke on the island. There was also plenty of ‘flash sideways’ time with Dr. Jack and John Locke back in LA. Jack discovered that John Locke had paralyzed himself and his father in a plane crash and refused to have any corrective surgery basically to punish himself for causing the crash.

Island Jack helped Sawyer, Kate, Hurley and co to escape by capturing Widmore’s submarine and pushing fake John Locke off the pier at the last moment. All appeared to go according to plan until a ticking bomb was discovered in Jack’s backpack. Sayid sacrificed himself and blew up with the bomb but alas, submarine was damage and Jin and Sun (trapped under big metal pipes) both drowned. Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley make it back to the island but I guess we’ve seen the last of Sayid, Jin and Sun. I’m not sure what happened to pilot Lapidus though.

There is much speculation about the end of the series and now the characters are being whittled down I’m on the edge of my seat.

Last week’s episode of Fringe became a perfect summary of what my choice in entertainment has become as Olivia Dunham donned her red lipstick to fight crime in the forties. Even back then she has the ability to confront a case from another world without batting an obviously fake eyelash. Her regrets over lost love mixing with the ability to dive into the smoky parlor filled with shady characters made me wish somehow there had been a female Sam Spade invented.

While both tastes in entertainment were crammed into one show my husband and I both felt a little jipped. It was really just a silly fluff episode to those who were more interested in the overall unbelievable story of the show and were left hanging unresolved last week. And for myself even the little girl in me listening to Walter portray his story would have interrupted to say “They didn’t have cell phones back then Uncle Walter get the story right!”

All told I have one thing I came away thanking this episode for; the courage to force myself to try red lipstick and secretly relish the compliments given that I looked like I stepped out of a forties film. Thanks Olivia.
